Treatment at Hope

Why Choose Hope Thailand?

Going to treatment can be a major turning point in your life. If you have been struggling with addictions, this can be your chance to recover and begin a brand new chapter. A lot will depend on how determined you are, but choosing an appropriate facility is also going to make a huge difference.

Choosing an appropriate program requires matching your needs to what a facility is capable of offering. You will want to choose a center with a good record of success – somewhere like Hope Center Thailand. Here are just some of the reasons our facility is successful:

Perfect Environment for Recovery

Hope is located in a peaceful and secluded location in the hills of Sri Racha overlooking the Gulf of Siam. The sunny climate and sea air contributes to a positive mental outlook that makes change easier. Being surrounded by so much beauty can also put you in the right mindset for transformation. By coming to Thailand, you will be well away from the usual stresses and triggers, and what once appeared impossible can now be seen as achievable.

The Team at Hope Understands

As well as professional qualifications, almost all of the members of the team at Hope have a personal history with addictions and recovery. This means we understand first-hand what you are going though and the difficulties you are likely to face in the future. Working at Hope is far more than a job to us – we are passionate because we know that by helping you we are strengthening our own recoveries. Our personal struggles with addictions mean we have already comprehensively ‘road-tested’ the tools we promote.

Evidence-Based Approach

Even though most of our clients choose to stay for longer than one month, it is still impossible to cover everything that may be helpful for your future life – there is just too much that could be included in the program. This is why we limit ourselves to those approaches that are backed by evidence as these give you the best chance of success.

Best of Western and Eastern Knowledge

It would be kind of strange to travel all the way to Thailand to engage in a program that is no different than what is found in the west. There are local approaches (e.g. Thai mindfulness practices) that will allow you create a better life, and we include these as a core part of our program. Problems that we treat come in many forms.  On this page, you will find a list of conditions to give you an idea of what we treat at Hope Center Thailand.

Benefits of Choosing Hope

Travelling thousands of miles in search of help may appear a bit extreme, but it really can be the best option.Being in  Thailand means possibilities that just are not available elsewhere. It can also make financial sense because it cost less here than getting help in other parts of the world.  You may be wondering if treatment is even necessary. Here are a few of the reasons we feel it is.

Why is Treatment Important?

  • You will be entering a supportive environment
  • An inpatient program greatly increases your likelihood of reaching long-term recovery
  • A supervised detox means you will be kept safe and comfortable as your body adjusts
  • A good program provides you with all the tools you need to create a life where you no longer need to turn to your addictions to cope
  • It means you will have easy access to all the resources you need to begin transforming your life
  • It shows you are taking your recovery seriously – it is this level of commitment that gives you the motivation to make permanent changes
  • You will be surrounded by people who understand your situation at Hope Thailand, almost all or our therapists/counsellors are in recovery)
  • The purpose of this type of program is far more ambitious than just getting you to stop – the real aim is a building life you will love
  • A quality program should include sufficient therapy sessions for you to begin dealing with your issues

When searching for help It is important to understand what a facility is able to offer you. Some programs may be better suited for specific types of issues or specific types of clients. It is important when considering any program that you figure out if it is the right one for you. Some of the questions you might want to ask would include:

  • Does the facility have a reputation for treating my particular addiction
  • Does the program work for multiple issues?
  • Will the program work if I have a dual diagnosis? This question is important if you are dealing with issues such as bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, or depression
  • Does the program treat me as an individual?
  • Is the program holistic or is more of a ‘one-size-fits all’ approach?
  • Is aftercare taking seriously?

Why Choose Hope?

There are many good reasons for choosing Hope Center Thailand. Check out our post where we list fifty reasons. You can also check out our testimonials where clients describe their reasons for choosing this path.

If you have never before considered going abroad, the suggestion of coming to Thailand might seem like a big step at first. The reality is that this option can be surprisingly practical – it is relatively easy to arrange, and you are likely to find somewhere that can take you almost immediately. Thailand is the obvious choice for a foreign centre because of our high quality programs available at affordable prices. Hope offers an effective evidence-based programs tailored for addictions. Our approach for treatment is based around proven therapies for overcoming addictions.

Activities & Excursions at Hope

By providing safe, exciting and varied excursions, we reintroduce fun into the lives of our clients. Learning to help each other enjoy new experiences, brings its own rewards by raising self-esteem and dispelling loneliness. Overcoming an addictions is a serious business, but this doesn’t mean that enjoyment is off the menu here at Hope. In fact, we see fun excursions and activities as a key element of your treatment. We are going to teach you how to enjoy life again because we know this is going to increase your commitment to sobriety.

A Bridge to Recovery

You may have suffered due to your addictions. The only good news is that the level of pain has now reached a point where you feel ready to change – you feel sick and tired of being sick and tired. The negative consequences of the behaviour gives you a great reason to quit, but it might not be enough to keep you sober long-term. This is because the memory of the pain fades over time, and you can start to question if it was really all that bad. In order to stay sober long-term, you need to learn to love this lifestyle, and this is what you start to do with our weekend excursions and activities. One of the unique features of the Hope program is that we emphasize the importance of outdoor therapy.

Weekends on the Beach

Most weekends we take all our clients on the short and pleasant ferry ride across to the island of Si Chang for a well-earned break. The island is within easy reach of the Hope Center – it’s just 30 minutes away from Si Racha by boat. This is by far our most popular excursion destination.

The idea is to help you develop a closer connection with the natural world and with the other members of the group. These excursions and activities also trigger the release of ‘feel-good’ hormones in your brain, and this can help you heal. Most important of all, you get to see for yourself that it is going to be possible for you to enjoy life without your struggles. Some of the other benefits of Hope’s outdoor therapy include:

The Perfect Location

Our location on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand means we are ideally placed for excursions and to visit some of the nearby islands – including some that most foreign tourists never get to see. The nearest island to Sri Racha is Si Chang, which is only a few minutes away by speed boat. Here you get to enjoy the Chinese Temple, the old town, Dracula’s Castle, and Tham Phang Beach. There are also other popular islands within easy reach of us, such as Koh Samet and Koh Chang. Here are just some excursions we offer at Hope:

Finding New Hobbies Is Crucial

One of the challenges you are going to have after you return home from Hope is finding productive ways of using your time. If you have been using  for many years, you may not have any hobbies, and you may even forget what it is you enjoy doing. One of the purposes of our activities is to give you the opportunity to do some experimentation, and you may decide to continue with some of these options afterwards. Here are some of the activities offered at the Hope Center:

Excursions Close Hope

Hope offers a bridge to normal living, and this means being able to function well in the outside world. Our excursions are great fun, but they are also considered part of the therapy. We are lucky to have some wonderful attractions close to us here in Sri Racha, such as:

International Sand City

The exhibits at Sand City are likely to have you scratching your head as to how they can possibly be made from sand. The collection includes giant statues of mythical figures, cultural icons, and scenes from modern life – there are also some spectacular images of the Buddha. As well as local sand sculptors, the collection also includes examples of the work of other artists from around the world. If you’re lucky, you might even get to see how they are made in the on-site workshop.

Big Buddha Hill

This picturesque park is home to a huge 18-meter statue of the Buddha, and there are also lots of other interesting structures to admire. There is a nice view from the top of the hill – make sure you bring your camera. Local people come here to pay respect and to make merit, so it is a nice place to mingle with regular Thais.

Buddha Image at Khao Chi Chan

Khao Chi Chan is better known to foreigners as ‘Buddha Mountain’. The main attraction is a 130-meter high Buddha image that was carved into the mountain using laser beams to create a golden mosaic – it’s an impressive achievement, and it looks magical at certain times of the day due to reflections of the sun. There is also a nice park around the mountain that visitors can walk around in.

Phayun Beach

The nice thing about Phayun Beach at Ban Chang is that it is a lot less crowded than beaches in nearby Chonburi. It’s a good option for those looking to get away from it all, especially on the weekdays. There are quite a few interesting things to see in the area including a fishing village and a Chinese temple.

Friday Evenings …

Every Friday evening the whole group, clients and staff all go into town. First, we spend an hour joining in at the local exercise park, a typically Asian experience – then at about 7 pm, we go to the Japanese restaurant for dinner. It’s a bit like Waggamuma, for this of you who know.

Reasons to Come to Hope

“Thailand is a magical place…Our morning hikes can take us into woodland and up great hills, where from the top we can see the undulating beauty of local mountains and valleys.”

Perspective from a distance

In chaos of our using we can lose sight of all that is around us. Our environment can become a prison or a maze we are stuck. To be able to get away and give some physical and metaphorical space from our using environment we are able to evaluate what pressures we were under without being surrounded by them. Coming out of our using environment can also give some much needed respite to those that we love and who love us and have had the heartache of watching a loved one in the midst of their addictions. The peaceful secluded serenity of our site here at Hope gives a well needed change of scene and a welcome place and some time for reflection and processing.

Vitamin D

The sunshine supplement. Vitamin D is absorbed into the body from diet but also from the sun’s rays, just twenty minutes of exposure a day can give our bodies the RDA it needs to function at optimum capacity. In recent years there has been a lot of media attention to the benefits of Vitamin D has to our general health.

Buddhist Principles

Thailand is the land of happiness and smiles. The national shared spiritual path is Buddhism. Buddhist principles have long been adopted by Westerners who have seen the Eastern way of acting and living in respect of collective consciousness, karma and meditation as an awakened and peaceful alternative to Western living.

At Hope we offer some insight into Buddhist principles with a weekly optional class, this is followed by a Buddhist meditation, both with Alon.

Natural Beauty

Thailand is a magical place, here at Hope we are lucky to be in reach of so much of the beauty it has to offer. Our morning hikes can take us into woodland and up great hills, where from the top we can see the undulating beauty of local mountains and valleys. In the nearby by town of Sriracha a giant Buddha stands nobly with his palms facing the ocean, protecting the area as he looks over it. There is a view the vast ocean and a typical lush Thai island from the Hope site. On Sunday’s we take advantage of our beautiful location and go an excursion over to the island for a peaceful day of beach, sea and rest.

The Hope Program

Coming to Hope you benefit from an all-round recovery focused program. The four pillar programme of 12 step recovery, mindfulness therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and wellness therapy makes us one of the best treatment centres in the world – we fully believe every aspect of this program builds a successful recovery.

  • 12 step Therapy – The structure of a 12 step recovery can be taken advantage of in every corner of the globe, the tools you gain from 12 step and the power of the group doesn’t end when you get on your plane back home, you can walk into a meeting, get a sponsor and continue the good work you begin at Hope. We have onsite 12 step meetings and book readings as well as excursion off site to a local English speaking NA meeting.
  • Mindfulness – although a way of thinking in Thailand for centuries, the practice of mindfulness is in it’s infancy in Western society. Recent studies at Oxford University have championed the power of Mindfulness from a neuroscientific perspective – it’s power to combat depression and assist a well mind. Learning to live in the present moment without resistance or judgement – observing our thoughts and not letting them overwhelm us is a powerful life tool.
  • Meditation – the ability to sit with oneself and find peace can be somewhat of an alien concept outside of using. At hope we have a traditional Thai style meditation room and offer many variations. As well as the ability to sit with oneself, our program also offers traditional and contemporary variations on meditation such as candle meditation and walking meditations.
  • Wellness – Numerous studies and the personal experience of many of the staff and clients here at Hope lend to the belief that exercise is a powerful tool when recovering from addiction as well as depression – which often comes hand in hand with addiction. We offer an all-round wellness program of Personal training sessions, group exercise, yoga, bike rides, runs, hikes and trips to local Muay Thai training gyms.
